Wärtsilä has won its fifth order from Norwegian operator Eidesvik Offshore for a gas-fuelled platform supply vessel (PSV).
Wärtsilä's scope of supply for the new vessel includes the dual-fuel main engines and generating sets, the electrical power and propulsion system, integrated automation, and the power management system.
The vessel will be equipped for use in Arctic service, including various with “winterization” and de-icing solutions. It will be built at Kleven Verft in Norway.
All Eidesvik’s gas-powered PSVs feature a gas electric propulsion system, comprising the Low Loss concept for electric propulsion, the Wärtsilä 34DF main engines, and the recently introduced Wärtsilä 20DF engine. The dual-fuel units enable the use of gas as a main fuel for marine applications. If the gas supply is interrupted, the Wärtsilä DF engines automatically switch to diesel mode with no loss of speed or power output, the company says.
